Arts Thursday – Dipping into Australian History

Peach Productions supports women writers and directors in creating new works, telling women’s stories, and gaining experience in theatre production.

Producer, writer and director Margaret Fitzgerald will be joining us to discuss its latest project “Women’s Voices: Stories to Stage” which opens next week.

This show features new short plays by women writers and directors. The writers focus on women facing challenges, finding their voice and identity, and looking for justice.

Fitzgerald aims to empower women in writing for the stage and making theatre accessible to women at a grassroots level.

Her play is about – a champion of immigrant women in Sydney in 1841 – finding strength and courage to make change in the world around her; Fitzgerald believes Chisholm’s achievement in protecting vulnerable women is long overdue for recognition.

The team of 17 actors includes those with years of experience as well as some in their first stage appearance since graduating, and they come from all over greater Sydney.

The show runs at the Sydney Theatre School,
Chippen St Theatre, Chippendale, from July 14 – 23.
