Kids Writers Talk About Reading – Oh, The Places We’ll Go!

September 11, 2017

Best-selling kids’ author Kate DiCamillo says that learning to read was like being given wings to fly with. What do other writers for children remember about becoming readers? In this 10-part series, Australian authors Mem Fox, Andy Griffiths, Nick Earls and others share their early reading experiences with Eastside Radio’s Sally Zwartz. Guests talk about the books that mattered to them, and read from one that still does. And they offer their thoughts on helping today’s kids discover the pleasures of reading.

In this episode, Sally speaks with Andy Griffiths.

Eight of the episodes feature a writer for kids talking about their first encounters with story, and with books; about learning to read, the pleasure of books and how to share that with kids today. The final two episodes turn to some of those kids of today for their thoughts on books and reading.
