The iconic music festival has been in the public eye since it’s inception in 1992. Begun as a daring and innovative experiment, WOMAD has taken on a life of its own and has since risen to global acclaim!
Now three decades on, with an already enviable lineup of 40+ artists, including but not limited to Nils Framm (Germany), Nitin Sawhney (UK), Khruangbin (USA), WOMADelaide welcomes 25 new artists to the scene!
Introducing 3 notable newcomers at WOMADelaide 2025 : Digable, Yemi Alade and Protoje.
Digable (Di-guh-ubhl) Planets is a USA-based, well-established hip-hop trio. Pioneers and notable contributors to the subgenres of jazz rap and alternative hip-hop, this trio is scheduled to make its first Aussie appearance! Composed of rappers Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler, Mariana “Ladybug Mecca” Vieira, and Craig “Doodlebug” Irving bringing their creative talents to the Australian music festival scene, this year is sure to stun and captivate audiences.
Sure to turn heads with her stunning outfits and perfectly coiffed headpieces, 2-time MTV African Music Award Winner Yemi Alade is making her first appearance at WOMADelaide. The starlet is highly-acclaimed as the ‘Queen of Afropop’ in her home country, Nigeria, and abroad with her ability to blend Afropop, dancehall, Amapiano, rumba, Afrobeat, reggae, and R’n’B. She was also the first African artist to be nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Born into a musical family, Protoje was influenced at an early age by his native Jamaican reggae music. First gaining relevance in 2005 for his mixtape Lyrical Overdose Volume 1, he’s gone from strength to strength to getting a Grammy Award Nomination in 2018 and then in 2022 while also being featured on a remix of Alicia Keys’ Underdog.
Making its debut in 1992 as a major independent event, WOMADelaide has never failed to stun, enthrall and entertain since. Look no further than this montage of last year!
