Tonight, Tuesday 16th August, you can choose from a fabulous mix of the latest bright green thinking at the Greenhouse smart talks with organic snacks, Save the Planet? There’s an app for that, Junction Cafe, the Powerhouse Museum, or OzDox’s evening of storytelling mayhem, How to Make a Great Science Documentary: Spin Coherence and Decoherence (hosted by me, Ruth Hessey!), at AFTRS in the Entertainment Quarter Moore Park. Save the Planet? looks at the role of new technologies in transforming the global economy from terminally wasteful to sustainably hopeful. These events are always full of buzz, connections and inspirational thinking. MC’s by TEC’s HotHouse creative director Andrew Tovey. Spin Coherence and Decoherence is a classic OzDox masterclass in the narrative challenges of documentary filmmaking (how to crack the storytelling formula for popular engagement), with tonight’s examples drawn from the science community – can quantum physics get any sexier (if you have no idea what it is?). 6pm start for both. Details – Greenhouse and OzDox. There are lots of other brain tingling events happening this week during the Sydney Science Festival.

Also tonight, the campaign to Save Bondi Pavilion continues, 6.30 pm at the Waverley Council meeting, Council Chambers (corner of Bondi Road and Paul Street, Bondi Junction). The CFMEU have placed a Green Ban on the Pav and councillors anticipate a number of motions will present this evening. They need your support. The Bondi Pav Music Studios are also under threat.

Later this week on Thursday 18th August, UNSW Galleries is launching Troubled Waters, an interdisciplinary suite of installations exploring key environmental challenges of our times, including Georgia Wallace Crabbe’s five screen major work, The Earth And the Elements. 6-8pm cnr Oxford Street and Greens Road Paddington. Don’t miss it!

Want to stay in, but you forgot to shop for dinner? No problemo. Oz Harvest have launched a series of youtube cooking videos called Wasty, aiming to curb the $8billion food waste bill Australians are currently incurring by throwing out edible food instead of enjoying it. The Wasty recipe for transforming left over chicken into delicious ravioli has already scored over 115,000 views. There’s also a recipe for making arancini balls out of left over rice. Check it out! Wasty

Finally, a celebration on Saturday, 20th August, has been announced for the Niblick Street Reserve, which Waverley council has ensured will stay in community hands after a protracted struggle. The council is hosting a BBQ from 11am- 1pm for everyone who loves the Reserve. See you there!
