About Me:
My name is Charlize, and I’m currently a year 10 student at Penrith Selective High School doing my week of work experience at Eastside Radio station. I love all things media: film, literature, television and especially music. I tend to spend my time watching new films (I love a fun coming of age movie) or sitting down and reading classical literature, and I especially love breaking it down and analysing the media I engage with.

Why Eastside Radio?
Doing work experience at Eastside Radio is such an incredible opportunity to be able to get a sense of how the media and radio scenes operate, especially locally within Sydney. I’m looking forward to learning about the workplace and developing new skills, and being introduced to new systems. Live broadcasting is so fascinating and I would love to investigate what it involves! I am thrilled to be at Eastside Radio, experiencing new things, and to discover new music and information through all the projects happening here.
Music:
I’m a guitarist and vocalist, so I know just how vital and beautiful music is. Music such an emotionally moving art form in so many ways, and I love getting to listen to new music and expand my tastes, or re-listen to same record a hundred times over to really absorb all of it’s intricacies. My personal tastes lean towards more indie alternative music, (with a proclivity towards alternative contemporary folk music), however in a broader sense I also tend to listen to a bit of jazz, bossa nova, musical theatre, and indie-rock/pop.
Some of my favourite artists currently include: Kevin Atwater, Lisa Ono, boy genius (and all it’s members solo music), em bradley, our., Annabelle Dinda, Leonie Biney, Nep, and The Smiths. However, being really tapped into the independent music space online, also means that some of my favourite songs only exist as a one minute long tiktok video. I tend to gravitate towards music with lyrics, as I quite enjoy the storytelling and poetic aspects of the form – especially the most confessional lyrics, and the specificity in a song’s lyricism.
