Raghav Handa on Sydney, Dance and the Making of His Latest Work

By: Hugh Phillips

Podcast: Drive

Choreographer and performer Raghav Handa joined Thursday Drive to discuss his journey from discovering Indian Kathak as a child to developing his own contemporary dance practice in Sydney. Handa reflects on the teachers and choreographers who shaped his work, his experience working with Indigenous dance practitioners and the challenges of pursuing dance as a career.

Handa also discusses ONE SONG, his new work for Sydney Dance Company’s Current season. Drawing on his practice in Kathak and contemporary movement, the work looks to Sydney’s characters, rumours, legends and folklore, considering how the rebellious and unconventional can become part of a city’s traditions.

You can catch ONE SONG as well as E2 7SD, Alpha Mutt and OUR(SELF)  at the Sydney Dance Company until the 20th of September.
