My name is Harvey Andrews, and I am starting my week of work experience here at Eastside Radio. Coming from Year 10 at Sydney Secondary College, Balmain Campus, my school has a week designated towards participating in work experience, and I chose to spend it here, as I would love to work in the music industry when I am older, and Eastside Radio provided the perfect introduction.
My whole extended family was born and raised in The UK, but my parents moved to Sydney before I was born, and I have lived my life here. We try to get back there as much as possible. I love traveling there for the culture and nature, as well as its proximity to other countries – something that we unfortunately don’t have here in Australia.
Music is a huge part of my life. I sing and play guitar and saxophone, participating in the school jazz and concert bands and taking weekly singing lessons. My dad spent my entire childhood trying to expose me to all kinds of music in order to get me to enjoy some of his favourite genres like jazz, rock, and house, and it worked. I enjoy all kinds of music, but in particular, I listen to lots of jazz, rap and all of their related sub-genres. Some of my favourite artists include The Alchemist, Chet Baker, Tyler The Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Ella Fitzgerald, and many many others.
I really enjoy jazz based hip-hop, such as certain works by Kendrick Lamar and The Alchemist.
I also really love older jazz from the 50’s and 60’s, such as Chet Baker.
I’m super grateful to Eastside Radio for allowing me to have this opportunity, and am excited for the days to come!
