Arts Thursday 12 January 17 celebrated the life and contribution of the beloved Australian artist Margaret Olley.
Margaret Olley: Painter, Peer, Mentor and Muse on exhibition at the SH Ervin Gallery tells of Olley’s life not only as an accomplished artist herself but also as a friend and supporter of many of her own contemporaries and a younger generation of painters such as Nicholas Harding, Robert Barnes, Cressida Campbell, Criss Canning and Ben Quilty.
Jane Watters the Director of the SH Ervin Gallery speaks to Maisy Stapleton about the exhibition and her own memories of the artist.
In addition, listen to a part-reprise of an interview with Christine France, one of Margaret Olley’s close friends, her executor and a member of the Margaret Olley Art Trust, during a tour of the artist’s extraordinary house in early 2012 – before its contents were packed up to be reinstalled at the Tweed Regional Gallery at Murwillumbah.
