About me

Hi, my name is Leo, and I am a 16-year-old student in Year 10 at Marcellin College, Randwick. I am undergoing a week’s experience at Eastside Radio, and I am hoping to further my knowledge and skills in the music industry. I have many hobbies and interests such as fishing, gaming, music, golfing, going to the gym and playing footy. I have a strong passion for music, and I am a musician. I play the drums, and I have been playing since I was 13 years old.

I practice drums regularly and love listening to music every day. At school, I play drums at least twice a week, with one of the times with my band and the other with my tutor. My band consists of 6 members, with all of them being in my own year. Although there are a lot of members, including 2 guitarists, 1 bassist, 1 vocalist, 1 pianist and 1 drummer, which is me, we still can successfully practice most of the time. Earlier in the year, we entered our school’s talent show, and we were able to come 1st.

Music is such a huge part of my life, as I love to express myself through playing music, as it can be a way to let out built-up emotions or just an easy way to relax at the end of the day.

Music Taste

Growing up, my music taste was heavily inspired by my mum’s own taste, with music from the 60s-80s influencing what I listen to. Even today, I still listen to those genres. Bands and singers that influenced me are people like David Bowie, Queen and even ABBA. When I first got into drums, it started to open my eyes to the genre of rock and how fun it is to play these songs.

I got into bands such as Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Black Sabbath. At the moment, my favourite genre of music is rock, more specifically indie and alternative rock. My favourite drummer is Dave Grohl because of his drumming style. When he drums, he emphasizes the snare and toms while playing in a very rhythmic tone. In the future, I strive to play one of the Foo Fighters’ songs, especially from their second album.

Why Eastside Radio?

Doing my work experience at Eastside Radio is such a great opportunity. I have a passion for broadcasting, podcasting and communications, and Eastside will help me further that passion. I am very interested in how radio stations work, and I am excited that I will be able to grow my experience and develop new skills in the music industry. I can’t wait to see what will happen throughout the week, and to see what’s next to come.
