Laki Sideris and Johannes Reinhart for Head On Photo Festival

May 13, 2016

Juniper Hall continues to support the Head On Photo Festival and the Moran Arts Foundation with exhibitions Zona Norte and Heaven and Earth from artists Laki Sideris and Johannes Reinhart, both of whom were 2015 finalists for the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize.

Laki Sideris is a photographer whose life revolves around his camera and his dark room. Laki has been heavily involved in the photography industry since he was a kid and has a deep understanding of how people affect his work. The artwork Laki produces explores his subjects connection to the place their at and the people around them. He feels that his work tells stories about being connected to people, things and places.

He has established himself as a very successful wedding photographer, lots of photos which end up on his personal website and Instagram page.

His photography exhibition entitled Zona Norte is an exploration of the Red Light district in Tijuana. He endeavours to have his audience safely experience the ‘mythology’ of the drifter and the excitement of Dolores del Rio. All the images were taken within on city block on one particular night.

The exhibition will be held at Juniper Hall until June the 5th.

The second artist to be featured at Juniper Hall is Johannes Reinhart with his exhibition entitled Heaven and Earth.

Johannes describes himself as a father, husband and a photographer who seems to have a very cheery disposition. He doesn’t like to take life too seriously unless he is philosophising how to better the world. He is a romantic, and that passion for romance translates into his photography seamlessly, particularly because he is currently working as a wedding photographer as well.

However lovely Johannes appears to be, his exhibition Heaven and Earth is a little more darker. It is a reflection of Johannes’s subconscious and his personal struggles within his life.

Johannes grew up in a very religious family but he found it quite a struggle to maintain his own faith. As he got older, he gradually lost all his grip on his religion. He felt an enormous amount of inner conflict that reflects in his work well.

There are also themes of life, death and suicide, themes that have presented themselves in Johannes’s life quite a bit in the past few years. These works are a way for him to express himself.

Again this exhibition will also be held until the 5th of June at Juniper Hall.

Juniper Hall is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am until 5pm. For more information, please head to the Juniper Hall website.
