CBF Welcomes New CEO

We are delighted to announce that Jo Curtin has been appointed as the new CBF Chief Executive Officer.

Jo’s appointment follows Ian Stanistreet’s retirement as CEO after 20 years leading Australia’s community broadcasting sector funding agency.

President of the CBF, Ian Hamm, says “Jo is the ideal person to lead the CBF at this time of unprecedented challenges and opportunities for the sector.

“She has an exceptional understanding of community broadcasting, with two decades of leadership roles within the sector.”

Jo started her career in community broadcasting at the youth radio station SYN Media, where she became Station Manager after completing her media degree. She later worked as Assistant Manager at 3ZZZ and was also a Board member of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

Jo joined the CBF in 2007 and has played a significant role in shaping its strategic direction helping to build an organisation that is inclusive, collaborative, community-minded and trusted.

“Jo’s vision for the organisation builds on the remarkable work of Ian Stanistreet, who, over the last 20 years, created a solid foundation for the future,” says Mr Hamm.

“We’re looking forward to working with Jo in the coming years as she expands on Ian’s legacy to create a more robust and sustainable community broadcasting sector.”

Jo says she is honoured to have been offered the role in a sector that has always been part of her life.

“Community broadcasting plays such an important role in local communities. It is such a vital part of the many cultures that make up Australia, and integral to a thriving and healthy democracy.

“Now, more than ever, is the time to celebrate the role that community broadcasters play in connecting people from all backgrounds.

“I’m looking forward to working together with the sector to create a bright future for community media.”
