Join Maisy Stapleton and Paula Towers this Arts Thursday to meet two special guests.
Bundanon – Deborah Ely AM
Bundanon on the Sholhaven River near Nowra was given to the nation by Arthur and Yvonne Boyd in 1993 as a remarkable cultural and environmental asset.
For the last 15 years, CEO Deborah Ely has nurtured, developed and transformed its programs, landscapes and resources and opened up Bundanon further to its community, to artists of all genres and to the nation. Bundanon has gained an international reputation, as well as becoming a much-loved local destination.
In the next few months, Deb will be leaving Bundanon with a remarkable legacy; including its enhanced role as a highly respected and loved cultural resource and with a unique infrastructure project – a gallery and collections store and visitors’ facilities, that will fulfill the needs of Bundanon and its communities for many years to come and provide an architectural attraction in its own right.
Deborah speaks to Maisy Stapleton about her time at Bundanon; the inspiration of the Boyds, the programs she has fostered and the incredible project she is delivering after many years of planning. She also describes the culmination of this project and its design by architect Kerstin Thompson.
Good Space – Perran Costi
As the creative heart of Sydney has suffered over the past year, a sustainability expert and an artist decided to do something about it by turning the iconic Sailors Home and Courtyard in The Rocks temporarily into Good Space. Our guest in the studio, co-creator and curator Perran Costi, describes how this project, which started on April 3, has brought arts, culture and entertainment back to the heart of the city.
The Sailors Home offers multiple levels to display art, run events and show wares, with bars, food spaces and an outdoor courtyard overlooking the Harbour.
The project features an artisan shop, ideas and education hub, cross-disciplinary art installation, curio-bazaar, small bar, cafe and secret garden in which guests can purchase art and design objects made by local creators and makers, listen to a talk, watch art in the making and enjoy new experiences. Peran will outline Good Space’s program of many free and affordable events which includes live art, concerts, performances, films, workshops, readings, parties and happenings.
Supported by the City of Sydney, NSW State Government and The Rocks, Good Space runs for 2 months, Wednesdays to Sundays.
