Presented by Bronwyn Rennex
Today on the show I speak to Scott Smart and Anni Finsterer about the play they are currently performing in at Belvoir St Downstairs Theatre, directed by Elizabeth Nabben called The Readers.
The play was written by Scott and is based on the real experiences of a broke young man trying to pay the rent in Sydney, this is a story of awkward friendship between lowly paid workers (ironically invisible in Hi-Vis gear) trying to fend for themselves in a dog-eat-dog workforce. And through it all, it’s about the books they read (when they’re not reading meters).
The Readers is being presented as part of Belvoir’s 25A initiative. The theatre gives emerging writers, directors and performers space in which to create new and exciting works. Seasons are short of ticket prices are cheap – just $25. The Readers runs until May 19 so be quick.
Because The Readers is about a pairing or partnership, I chose musical collaborations as my theme for today’s show. I hope you enjoy the music!
Thanks for listening.
