About Me:
My name is Tilda, and I am a Year 10 student from Caringbah Selective High School in the Sutherland Shire. I have a sister named Freya, who is an extraordinary flautist. My dad works for NPWS, but in his spare time, he plays bass guitar in his band. My mum is an ecologist and she is a very talented sketcher and artist. My hobbies include running, reading, and listening to music. 24/7. I always have my headphones in. My favorite genre of all time is pop, but recently I have been expanding my tastes further out into the musical world to genres like rap, classical and folk.

Why Eastside Radio?
Work experience is a great opportunity for kids in Year 10 to learn about the industries they might want to move into once they graduate. The world of music and broadcasting has always appealed to me, particularly because I am entertaining the idea of pursuing a career in journalism once I graduate from high school. It requires critical thinking and curiosity, and both of these skills are also important in radio and podcasting. I think radio is an interesting form of journalism, and the balance at Eastside of both real-world commentary and music is exciting. As soon as I walked into the office of Eastside Radio in Paddington, Sydney, I was interested. It is a comforting, cozy space that features three recording studios, with the walls covered with shelves of CDs and records. I am learning about both the day-to-day experiences in this office, as well as the new and exciting things that are happening for the lovely volunteers who work here. People from all walks of life come to volunteer here, and I feel really lucky to be able to spend a week here and watch everyone at work.
Music:
Music is something that is really important to me, and something that I believe has shaped me hugely as a person, and will continue to influence me as I grow up. As a kid, some form of Australian rock was always playing through my parents’ old CD player, and then as I grew up, my interests started to shift more into the pop genre. My favorite song right now is 12 to 12 by sombr, and I am waiting anxiously for Sabrina Carpenter’s new album to come out on Friday. A song that I will always love is “How To Make Gravy” by Paul Kelly. I have always loved the way Paul is able to tell a story through song, and the beautiful way he is able to capture Australian culture in his music.
