Critically acclaimed in The New Yorker as “a shining light of the contemporary jazz-guitar generation,” Wolfgang Muthspiel is known worldwide for his daring musicality and dazzling technique.
“Muthspiel combines a flawless technique honed by classical training with a restless musical imagination as likely to derive inspiration from Bach as from the blues or the Beatles” London Times
At his last City Recital Hall show in 2014, he wowed audiences with a collaboration with Slava Grigoryan and Ralph Towner, but this time he returns with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Brian Blade to bring their diverse influences and sound aesthetics together. Known as masters of improvisation, this show is sure to highlight their open approach to music-making and deep focus on the song and the moment.
The jazz times reviewed the trio’s music as “a haunting soundtrack to a movie not yet made.”
