When The Beatles moved to psychedelic rock and Bob Dylan went electric, Van Morrison hired New York’s finest jazz musicians and recorded two of the most classic albums of that golden era – Astral Weeks and Moondance. Both of these albums had an enormous impact on musicians and singers around the world, and Vince Jones was one of these many artists.
Known as a remarkable interpreter, Vince Jones has invited a selection of the country’s finest jazz and rock musicians to form what is now called The Astral Orchestra, lead by musical director Matt McMahon. The Astral Orchestra joins Jones onstage to perform an homage to two of Morrison’s most acclaimed albums. Astral Weeks, a poetic, mercurial blend of jazz, folk, and blues and Moondance, a wonderful soul and jazz influenced album.
Fans of Morrison are sure to impressed and awed by the magical adaptation of some of his most time-tested works. Check out the review from their most recent performance at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
