We first met Paris Pompor alongside his partner in music and life Georgie Zuzak when they presented The Album Show on FBi Radio in the early 2000’s. Together they embodied a mix of cool and kind, sharing their love of music and community with anyone who was equally interested. Growing up in Canberra as a punk loving bassist made Paris accessible to all of us outside the mainstream of Sydney.
His influence across community radio made him one of the loudest voices for music in this city and for two decades as the cohost of the Groovescooter show, he left an indelible mark on Eastside Radio and was the recipient of our highest volunteer award, The Marg Barry. From there he ventured across town to 2SER where his Jumping The Gap program collected a packed dancefloor of loyal listeners happy to move their way through the middle of the week.

Paris shaped so much of Sydney music and influenced the city’s arts and culture like no other. His love of music documentaries started a movement of film screenings at the Golden Age Cinema that can best be described as all sold out! The curation of underground independent films mixed with classic revivals like Stop Making Sense were enjoyed by everyone who attended and deserve to keep going by the next generation.
His in conversation discussions were both insightful and thoughtful, reflective of someone who for decades lived in the middle of the music scene. We haven’t even touched on their label Groovescooter records and their impact on local music and musicians around the country.
Gone way too soon and missed sorely by all of us who love and remember him. Georgie we send you our deepest and sincerest love today and for every day that Paris is no longer beside you.
Thank you Paris for all you gave to everyone who ever met you X
