Tina Harrod Album Launch

April 20, 2018

The album launch for Tina Harrod’s fifth album was originally set to be held at The Basement in Circular Quay. It’s unfortunate sudden closure meant a new venue for Tina’s launch was required.

Thankfully the gig was moved to the Clovelly Bowling Club at short notice. For those unfamiliar with the Starfish Club it seems an unusual choice, for those of us who have experienced the monthly delights of the Starfish it was inspired.

The venue was already close to full when I arrived just in time for support act Ella Keysell. Ella performed with just her brother accompanying her and did a wonderful job. She had the audience wrapped from the beginning with her gentle banter and sweet voice.

That said, the audience were very much there to see Tina Harrod and by the time she came onto the stage; supported by a full backing band, the room had gone from near full to packed. The album has already had extremely positive reviews and airplay across the media including Eastside Radio.

Tina, always the showwoman, was on stage with her album collaborator Stu Hunter, a string quartet, as well as band and rotating brass section and childrens choir.

The performance was exceptional, the music stunning and we can only hope that there will be further opportunities to see the album performed like this, with the full support of the band.

The album incorporates a variety of genres and is a great showcase for Tina’s distinctive vocals. Seeing it performed live only confirmed my opinion that is her best work yet.
