DEVELOPING SYDNEY’S SWEET SPOTS : LAVENDER BAY

Program Page: The Sydneyist

Duration: 30min

This week on The Sydneyist: As the push to develop at all costs intensifies under the guise of ‘affordability', many of Sydney’s sweet spots are coming under attack. Lavender Bay is such a spot. Longtime home to a bohemian artist community including the late Peter Kingston, and to Wendy Whiteley’s beloved Secret Garden, it is currently subject to four State Significant Development proposals that send six towers up to 30 storeys high, straight to the Minister for approval. Is there a better path to density and affordability? Clare Lowenthal, a spokesperson for the Lavender Bay community, joins us this week on THE SYDNEYIST for a conversation about what is proposed and how it might be done better.
