Hi my name is Xavier. Nice to meet you.
I’m sitting here at Eastside Radio filling in for the receptionist. For as long as I can remember my dad Tony has locked me in the basement and forced me to listen to jazz music and considering I’m a teenager that means that I’ve been listening to Eastside my entire life. Eastside has always been a big part of my life. When we lived in Sydney, my dad would always take me into the radio station where I would try to make my own radio show but end up just playing a cacophony of music and random noises and then get upset when dad said we couldn’t put it on air.
Anyway back to the present I’m sitting here writing this because no one is calling and dad says I can’t play video games. He told me to write about myself so that he can post this on the station’s website which I wasn’t too keen about it but here it goes.
Hi (again) my name is Xavier and my dad is the Manager of a radio station known as Eastside Radio and my mum is an emerging musician, an acting teacher and a horse riding instructor. I have one younger sibling who is always finding ways to annoy me and two pets, one dog named Joni and a cat called Snowy. We all live in a small place called The Southern Highlands (which is south-west of Sydney) and there’s always something to do around the farm (not that I’m doing any of it) like mowing the lawn or feeding the animals so you can never find yourself bored (I still manage to though). I’ve recently picked up the bass guitar and so far its been a really fun instrument even though I still don’t know how to play it, but its enjoyable just plucking the strings.
One of my favorite shows is this little show called Media Watch, that talks about the mistakes and the issues of the media that others ignore. Even though Media Watch is owned by the ABC it also holds the ABC accountable at the same time. My favorite type of music is rap and my favourite artists are Roddy Richh, Eminem, Royce da 5’9 and Kanye West. I’m kind of clueless when it comes to what I want my future to be, I was thinking either someone who answers emails all day long (like my dad) or…
Enough of all that blabbering, in the end being a receptionist is not a bad job, it gives you a bit of a sense of power thinking you can just not answer calls even though that could get you fired. Its really nice, because you get to meet a lot of people and you tend to greet all the people coming in and out which is great, and after my first day as an intern I would defiantly want to come back.
