“Along Came Love” or “Le Temps d’Aimer” in french, is produced by Katell Quillévéré. The movie is inspired by Katell’s family history. The main actors are Anaïs Demoustier and Vincent Lacoste. I caught a screening at Palace Cinemas Moore Park last week, and it was truly captivating.. The festival runs until April 9th in Moore Park, don’t miss your chance!

The scenario is about Madeleine who has a relation with a german soldier during the Second World War. At the end of the war, the German soldier disappears, leaving Madeleine pregnant. Her parents, so embarrassed of the child kicks their daughter out of the house. So she starts a new life as a waitress in an hotel next to the sea in France, taking care alone of the kid, Daniel. Working tirelessly to provide for herself and her child, Madeleine struggles with a strained relationship with Daniel, burdened by the shame of his origins. The poignant moments between Madeleine and Daniel are deeply moving, especially when Daniel expresses his longing for his mother’s love with the heartfelt plea, “Mom, my only wish is for you to love me someday.”

The life of Madeleine will radically changed when she meets François, a parisian student at the beach. In principle, everything is against them. Francois is the son of a rich businessman and writes a thesis while Madeleine is a single mother fighting to survive. However they fall deeply in love and Francois decides to adopts Daniel and marries Madeleine. Together, they embark on a journey of transformation, establishing a cabaret where American soldiers gather, reshaping their destinies and creating a new chapter filled with hope and love.

Nevertheles doubts soon began to creep into their relationship. Everything has happened so fast between them, but do they really know each other? The reasons why francois married Madeleine are unclear. At this point, the film takes a completely different direction, placing the viewer in the position of observer. I was totally absorbed in all the twists and turns of the story.

Overall, I really liked the movie, it evoked both tears and laughter. In my view, the most compelling aspect lies in the portrayal of the relationship between Madeleine and her son, which is masterfully developed in the screenplay.
