This story brings together three athletes whose paths all cross at Eastside Radio.

Chris Zinn used to be on the board of Eastside Radio. He now lives in Queensland but took the time to come in the studio to share his experience as a long-distance runner just a few days prior to running the Sydney Marathon in August. He has done multiple ultra-marathons, 17 marathons and shares his love for running, its capacity to direct your attention to the present moment and the importance of community in a sport often described as individual.

Matt McMahon, is a presenter on Eastside, he co-host Blow, on Thursdays afternoon with his friend Dan Barnett. He is a musician but also a swimmer. In this podcast, he shares how his love for swimming started as a child, before becoming a true passion in his adulthood. He shares some of the best places he swam in, the swim club he often joins at Bondi, swimming from one end of the shore to the other and the impact it has had on his mental health.

Lastly, Hughie Phillips is also a presenter at Eastside, he hosts Album of the Week, every Wednesday from 3PM to 4PM. He is a cyclist, he started the sport as a kid going to school before turning to mountain biking and road biking. A sport he practiced competitively for multiple years. He shares his journey as a teeneager who’s life was centered around cycling to a young busy adult who knows practice it as a hobbie after an important crash.

Sport has played a huge role in my life, both my parents are athlete. My dad practice triathlon for the majority of his life, he started as a kid because he loved swimming and wanted to explore more. Originally, when working on this podcast, I was wanting to interview multiple athletes at Eastside, without a specific sport in mind. When I learnt that it would be a cyclist, a runner and a swimmer, I thought it would be beautiful way to pay tribute to my incredible dad and a sport he loved so dearly. He was passionate about sports, especially swimming and I am so grateful I get to carry on his love for sports with me.
