Yesterday, on Time and Space, Mick held a special feature in honor of the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award.

The Jann Rutherford Memorial Award was created in 2005 to assist in the professional development of an outstanding young female and gender diverse jazz musician. The Award is named in honour of the late jazz pianist Jann Rutherford, and is funded by private donations in partnership with the Mietta Foundation, Melbourne International Women’s Jazz Festival (MIWJF), Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) and ABC Jazz.

This year’s winner was announced a few weeks ago; it is the young and talented pianist, composer and improviser Lauren Tsamouras.

The first recipient was trombonist, Alex Silver, she used to be a volunteer and present a show here at Eastside Radio.

Tune into this podcast episode, to listen to special interviews, the music from previous and current award winners and find out more about this awesome award supporting emerging jazz artists.
