Podcast: Music

With it’s hypnotic hip-hop vibe and punk-rock energy, BCUC taps in to the spirits of it’s ancestors and the creative rebellious energy of it’s hometown, Soweto. This outspoken and outstanding seven-member band uses ïncantations” in Zulu, Sotho and English, funky modulations and more to bring to the world the voice of their people. There are ritual song. around-the-fire hood songs, shebeen songs, church songs, all used as weapons of political and spiritual liberation. The Afrika portrayed by BCUC is not poor, but rich in tradition, rituals and beliefs. This band is about today and the future, infused with all that is the past. Singer Jovi joined PJ from Dial Afrika recently ahead of their performance at WOMADelaide in March 2019.
