Philosophy of Jazz, One-Off Special with Athésia

August 10, 2025

Written byAthésia

Bonjour, Good Afternoon beautiful souls of Sydney, Australia and The WORLD.
Welcome to Philosophy of Jazz. My name is Athésia, and I’m filling in for Phil James today.

Musical odyssey of peace and Love

It has been a while since I’ve been on air, on social media, or in the public eye. After almost a two-year odyssey focusing on creative projects, while praying and sending positive energy to the world. I was hoping that peace and love would prevail over the atrocities happening in our precious planet. I was brought out of my mutism by Eastside’s Station Manager, Tony, asking me if I could fill in for Phil on Philosophy of Jazz. I gladly accepted the invitation and decided to share my wish for peace on Earth through music.

What’s on the Playlist

Monday 4th August 2025, On today’s show, you’ll travel the world where peace and love are the theme of the day. A musical journey, where Jazz meets the suave rhythms of Latin America and Mother Africa, blended with soul, blues, gospel and a French & Creole touch!

All the songs have been specially curated for their messages, their music, their inspiration, and the uplifting spirit they bring.

Favourite Happy Song & More

To close the show, I wanted to share my current favourite happy song, Vivant by Malik Djoudi . Even if it’s not jazzy, it’s a pure joy and it makes my body and soul happy!

And for the finale: Sowing the Seeds of Love by Tears for Fears. While it may not be jazzy either, it’s a politically charged message that is using unity and love as catalysts for change. It makes it the perfect uplifting anthem to leave us energised, inspired, and ready to take action.

You can listen to the full show HERE.

Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Nara Noian, Ghalia Benali, Vardan Hovanissian, Manno Charlemagne, Junior Mance, Mohamed Najem, Dinah Washington, Max Richter, Chico Buarque, Dhafer Youssef, Amanda Whiting, Caetano Veloso, Abdullah Ibrahim, Anthony Joseph, Mary Lou Williams, Al Green, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Malik Djoudi, Tears for Fears.

Songs mentioned on air but not played

During the show, I mentioned that I would have loved to play Ils sont tombés by Charles Aznavour and Perlimpinpin from Barbara, as their lyrics are poignant and their melodies deeply moving. However, they didn’t quite fit and were not on the same musical wavelength of the other tracks in the program.

By clicking HERE, you can listen to the English version of Ils sont tombés (They Fell) by Aznavour. I was able to find a video of Perlimpinpin by Barbara with English subtitles HERE. It’s not the best version of the song but it provides the lyrics. (Click above to listen to a better version). Perlimpinpin is a message of peace and innocence, contrasting the harsh realities of violence with the beauty of nature and childhood. Using rich metaphors the song highlights the importance of living passionately and fighting with tenderness rather than aggression. It also reflects on the meaning of life and existence, questioning the reasons behind violence and suffering.

A show dedicated to you!

This episode is dedicated to all victims of war, and to everyone campaigning for peace, whether you are supporting peace organisations, advocating for change, educating yourself and others, praying, embracing mindfulness, or simply living each day in a way that spreads compassion, love and peace. Every act matters!

Back behind the panel and the mic after almost two years and with only one day to prepare, I hope you enjoy this musical peaceful and loving trip around the world.

Thank you for tuning in to Philosophy of Jazz on Eastside Radio

Much Love and Peace,

Athésia xoxo
