Operantics’ Comic Opera Double Bill at Eternity Playhouse

March 19, 2026

Operantics will present a lively double bill of short comic operas at Eternity Playhouse on 27–28 March, bringing together works by Mozart and Salieri in a playful and entertaining evening of opera.

The program pairs Mozart’s The Impresario with Salieri’s Prima la musica, e poi le parole, exploring one of opera’s most enduring questions: what matters more — the music or the words? Originally commissioned in 1786 by Emperor Joseph II for a musical contest at the Viennese court, both works were designed as witty takes on the process of creating an opera, and they premiered on the same evening as rival entertainments.

This new production by Operantics captures the spirit of that historic rivalry while placing audiences behind the scenes of operatic chaos. Expect ambitious singers, temperamental divas, anxious composers and plenty of musical satire, alongside brilliant music and impressive vocal performances from a talented cast.

When: 27–28 March

Where: Eternity Playhouse, Darlinghurst

What: Operantics presents a comic opera double bill – The Impresario (Mozart) and Prima la musica, e poi le parole (Salieri)
