It’s day one at Eastside FM community radio in Paddington, and I’m doing my first shift as a (newbie) intern.

This opportunity is a late-in-life career pivot into something completely different! After spending the last couple of years studying radio broadcasting and podcast production at TAFE and AFTRS, I’m thrilled to be here at this cool (if not quirky) Sydney community radio station.

I grew up in an inter-generational home where the record player was always on, playing anything from classical music to old school country and soundtracks from the movies of that era.

That joy of listening to all kinds of music never left me. But, call me a vintage sort of gal when it comes to my taste in music. I love the big band and swing of the 30s and 40s, the rock ’n’ roll hits of the 50s, the smooth soul of Motown, and the fun, daggy, dance-till-you-drop tracks of the early 60s.

Songs like A Sunday Kind of Love, You Never Can Tell, Crazy He Calls Me, Glow Worm, A Rockin’ Good Way, Twisting the Night Away, and Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini all make it onto my retro Sunday Soiree playlist.
