Hi everyone, my name is Léane Debize and I am starting my internship at Eastside FM.

About me

I grew in a small town in France and have dreamt of traveling the world and discovering new cultures since I was a child. Sydney has been my dream destination for 15 years since my mother first introduced me to the Opera House. A few weeks ago, I was finally able to see this incredible building for the first time and start exploring the area, it’s been absolutely magical. I am passionate about politics and I believe I have so much to learn from others. I also love going to concerts, listening to podcasts, and photography.

I study International Relations in the Netherlands and I am currently an exchange student at Western Sydney University in Parramatta. I aim to become a journalist, someone who gets to write stories and impact others with my work. Someone who works to make a difference, make the world a better, more inclusive and safer place for everyone. I will graduate next year with my Bachelor’s Degree and would like to pursue a Master in Political Communication and Journalism.

Why Eastside?

Over the last few years, I have come to learn the importance of diverse media platforms for entertainment as well as for learning. I am very interested in the radio because I believe it is such a powerful platform, which helps people connect in a way that is so singular to radio. For a while now, I have been dreaming of having my own podcast in which I can share and talk to people about topics that matter to them and to me. Being an intern at Eastside Radio gives me a unique opportunity to learn about this media, music, podcasts and many more skills.

Music has been a part of my life forever. I grew up with music all around me. My dad loved the Beach Boys. My mom and stepdad taught me about important French artists they loved like Jean-Jacques Goldman and Grand Corps Malade. Today, I take their influence with me everywhere I go. I started dancing at the age of 4, it has been my passion for many years and has impact my life in incredible ways. I love pop music, I am a big Taylor Swift fan and adore discovering new genres and styles.

My love for sharing

Here’s a song I really love by the Beach Boys, a song that reminds me of my late father and all the lovely memories I shared with him – Surfin’ U.S.A.

Lastly I would like share this quote “Our blessed radio. It gives us eyes and ears out into the world.” – Anne Frank. A few years ago, I read her diary, it is a very powerful and tragic story that is worth reading and reminds us of the importance of media throughout history. I want to use radio as a way to share and learn with people.

I am eager to learn from Eastside and all of the wonderful people I will meet while interning here.
