‘Moth to Flame’ is Daniel Susnjar‘s second release of his very popular Afro Peruvian jazz ensemble and is equally, drawing accolades, as did his first ‘Su Su Nje‘. Accolades such as ‘Susnjar radiates a joyful energy’ from the SMH and ‘Susnjar has created a fresh and bright thing’ from Australian jazz.net.
This recording was also recorded in Brooklyn NY and Dianel has collected a most impressive line up of American, Peruvian, Portuguese and Australian musicians, including, once again, the indefatigable cajon drummer/percussionist and the vocal sounds of Huevito Lobaton.
Since I spoke with Daniel last year on the release of Su Su Nje, the recording and he as an individual have gone on to win more awards. Winner best drummer/percussionist 2016 West Australian Music Awards, Best Jazz Act 2016 WAM awards, Best Australia Modern Jazz Album Su Su Nje in 2015 National Bell Awards, winner Australian Jazz Song ‘Forte Pulse Torte’ 2015 National Bell Awards.
I will open the program with a track from this latest release Moth to Flame, but later in the programme I have something from another release and it’s saxophonist/composer Rafael Karlin’s recording Trace.
