Presented by Phillip James
“Jammin’” is playing music, especially standards, classics and otherwise timelessly recognisable tunes, in new, improvised, swinging and surprising ways.
“Jammin” is also slang for excellent, first rate, cool. The Jammin breakfast shows on Eastside Radio are thus very appropriately named.
As host of Monday’s “Jammin” breakfast program, Phillip James shares jazz and standards, with plenty of vocals and a sweet balance of classic recordings with the best and most interesting of the new. His tastes run from the romantic, bordering on nostalgic, to jazz rock; from the great American songbook to instrumental gems from the 50s and 60s mainstream jazz era. Phil likes to mix it up genre-wise though focuses on music that is “jazzful, jazzable, full of jazzness”.
He likes to tell stories too; about music and musicians, songs and songwriters and the crazy stuff that happens in our world every day.
If you like a recipe of the familiar and proven, mixed up in equal measure with the obscure and new, then Monday Jammin won’t disappoint.
