Australian folk jazz trio, Elixir, featuring Katie Noonan, Zac Hurren, and Ben Hauptmann, come to Bondi Pavilion for one night only this March to perform their new album ‘A Small Shy Truth’. The band gives musical life to the philosophical lyrics of renowned poet and cartoonist Michael Leunig.
Elixir have well and truly established themselves as a creative favourite on the Australian music scene. Formed in Brisbane in 1997 by Katie Noonan, Nick Stewart and River Petein, it has since existed in various forms connected by the unmistakable talent of Katie’s vocals. In 1999, saxophonist Zac Hurren (Katie’s partner of 24 years) added his saxophonist stylings and in 2005 guitarist Stephen Magnusson joined. In 2019 guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann replaced Stephen to form the trio they are today. The group has released two studio albums and has won an ARIA award. “We’re about freedom and spontaneity, particularly in a live set,” explains Noonan.
Katie Noonan is a singer and songwriter who has enjoyed a successful career encompassing opera, jazz, pop, rock, and dance. She is a 5 times ARIA, AWMA, AIR and APRA Award winner. Zac Hurren is a saxophonist and composer with a National Jazz Award and an ARIA Award. He is also a Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalist. Guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann is a Freedman Jazz Fellowship winner and National Jazz Award finalist.
