My name is Rebecca, and I am in year 10 at Sydney Girls High School. I am so excited to be taking on work experience at Eastside FM for the next week! Music has undeniably been a part of my life for as long as I am able to remember, and while my taste has changed over time, my love for music has always stayed the same. While I have played a few instruments, like flute and piano, I would say I definitely like listening to music more than I like playing my own (demonstrated by the fact that I quit both…). Though one thing I love to do is sing, objectively I am not good at singing (as I have been told by many), and struggle to stay on tune, but that does not mean I enjoy singing any less, and I love to do karaoke with friends.

I would say that my taste in music varies across genres, and in recent years has strayed more towards Indie pop and rock, folk and pop. Though coming to Eastside FM, I want to explore more of the jazz genre, and discover talented artists, and songs I likely would’ve never otherwise come across. Even after just working here for a brief period, I’ve already felt myself really get into the environment surrounded by music, and new songs that I really enjoy. Music has always been a comfort for me, when I’m feeling down there always seems to be music I can relate to, and in happy moments surrounded by loved ones sharing the experience of music is always a joy. I often listen to music before I sleep as well, as I feel as though it helps to calm me and create my own bubble.

One of my happiest places is at music concerts, and I have has the fortune of being able to attend two concerts of some of my favourite artists with my best friend, which are some of the happiest memories I have had. Concerts are not only a place to listen to music, but to connect with others who share this same passion, and bond over a collective experience. I am so excited to experience more in the future

I am so glad to have gotten this opportunity to work in Eastside FM this week, and experience this amazing atmosphere. I’m eager to see what I will learn this week, and the experiences I will have.
