Review of Wild Marmalade, Sydney Opera House,  October 19

The primal didge and drums improvisation of Wild Marmalade had the crowd dancing and swaying from one climactic moment to another last Wednesday night at the Opera House.

Didgeridoo maestro, Si Mullumby, combined with no fewer than four percussionists, an indigenous didgeridoo player and guitarist Paul George, with a dazzlingly energetic and continuous flow with the various musicians coming and going. There was little ebb and a lot of flow with Si in control as the conductor/ringmaster all the way through.

Presented by Earthbeats, the concert promoters promised that it would move us “body and soul”,  and it most certainly did. One could not think of a more fitting concert to stage at Bennelong Point. It was one that will stand out in the memory.

Torres Strait Islander, Chris Tamwoy, who appeared on Drive Tuesday with Si Mullumby, was the support act with some highly original guitar work.

Listen to the podcast with the two of them on Drive Tuesday.
