Durham’s Purple Radio Prodigy Down Under

September 04, 2023

Who is Elliott Wallace? And what on earth is he doing down under?

Hello! On the 31st August I departed my home town of York, waved an emotional goodbye to my close family and embarked on a long haul to the land of Kookaburras, Didgeridoos and questionable footwear. At the relatively young age of 20 the long road of future work, academia and personal development has been shown to be winding and full of opportunities. My stint here at Eastside is amongst my first adult footsteps in the path ahead. As exciting travelling to the other side of the world is, one must ask ‘pourquoi’?

Well, here is my ‘pourquoi’:

Ever since my newborn days, the world of television, radio and media has surmised my non-academic interests, originally kickstarted by an obsession with Top Gear – yes that’s right, as a baby/toddler I wasn’t fanboying over SpongeBob or Bob the Builder, rather 3 middle aged, poorly dressed and foul-mouthed men driving cars. This intrigue into presenting snowballed when one started paying increased attention to the journalistic tendencies of F1 hosts and commentators. From here on in every piece of to camera or microphone piece observed has offered mental note taking opportunities for a ‘follow your heart’ career into radio or TV.

When presenting a show, writing an article or delivering a monologue, my mannerisms, opinions and eloquence has often been likened to Jeremy Clarkson, Piers Morgan and Mike Graham, I sincerely hope these comparisons only go as far as the above, and not appearance too!

Whilst opinion pieces are my forte, the delicate balancing of creating a playlist for live radio has often been praised, despite my hamperingly small pool of favoured music, the extensive range of researched tracks often covers everything from mainstream to niche.

The above are marvellous indicators of my passion for the world of media, but do not cover my highlights thus far, a range of high flying interviews with WEC champion Mikkel Jensen, NFT expert Mr Farun, ideologists in Durham, controversialist Sophie Corcoran, F2 and F3 drivers; Juan Manuel Correa, Fabio Scherer and Louis Deletraz.

Will the passion and drive (pun on a motorsport heavy bio intended) continue here at East Side? Let us hope so. Opinions, fun, cracking music and interviews… what more could be desired?

P.S. Please can someone direct me to P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way?
