Chicago alt-rock legends: Wilco

October 09, 2023

With an ambitious new album and 30 years of indie-rock classics in tow, beloved Chicago indie veterans Wilco are set to return to Australia for the first time in more than a decade.

Since their formation all the way back in 1994, Chicago-based six-piece Wilco have gone on to become one of the most beloved alternative rock bands of the past 30 years, delivering a string of classic records – including 2002’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, often cited among the greatest albums of the century – and winning multiple Grammy awards. Now, after 11 long years away, the legendary indie rock outfit returns to Australia to perform a career-spanning set – and selections from their highly anticipated new pop record, Cousin – at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall for one night only.

Led by accomplished singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy, Wilco evolved from their ramshackle beginnings in alt-country to become critically acclaimed guitar rock favourites, drawing on their love of classic pop, country and experimental sound across their breakthrough album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, 2004’s Grammy-winning A Ghost is Born, and 2022’s Americana opus, Cruel Country. This year sees the release of their most adventurous album to date, the Cate Le Bon-produced pop record Cousin, and in 2024 the band will celebrate 30 years together with performances that dive into their long and illustrious career.

Don’t miss these alt-rock icons, in what is sure to be a very special show.
