Powerhouse Ultimo is holding a retrospective of iconic Australian fashion designer, Carla Zampatti. It will feature over 100 designs from over 5 decades of her enormous output.

We speak to Exhibition Curator Robert Leong about this landmark internationally exclusive retrospective. The clothes will anchor the story of her private professional and public life, brought to life by stories told by her family, friends, staff and clients.

Not only will it feature designs made famous in the public space by celebrities and politicians (think Julia Gillard, Tina Arena and Princess Mary of Denmark) but shines a light on lesser known aspects of her creativity. She designed a car for Ford specifically for women. And the corporate wear for Australia Post.

For the exhibition many individuals were asked to lend the Museum their Zampatti dresses and tell the stories relating to the garments. These works came from the rarely seen designs of the 60s and 70s.

The exhibition opens 24 November.

The Short and Sweet festival of 10 minute plays has reached the finals weekend. The finale features 8 plays chosen by the Judges and 8 plays chosen by the people. There will be winners in each category. Plays will be whittled down over this weekend to arrive at the winners. Get down to the Tom Mann Theatre, 136 Chalmers Street, Surry Hills NSW.

We’ll meet Lachlan McWilliam who directs one of these plays, All’s Will That Ends Will. It is a comedy written by long time collaborator, Barry Wood.  Will can only converse using Shakespeare quotes, much to the annoyance of his wife. The therapist they see doesn’t really help matters either.

Also we’ll bring you news of a callout to NSW based LGBTQA+ identifying artists for paid commissioned opportunities in our regions.
