Bollywood’s defining singer and the world’s most recorded artist ever, the legendary 82-year-old Asha Bhosle returns to the Sydney Opera House stage after nine years for her final tour – a career-spanning celebration through film classics, crossover hits and euphoric Indian traditional. She’ll perform on the 14th of March at the Opera House.
Honoured with Filmfare’s Lifetime Achievement Award and featured in CNN’s top 20 music icons, Bhosle’s otherworldly influence has been compared to none other than Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and has arguably sold more records than both combined! First discovered at only 11, the singer has followed Ravi Shankar’s path in transcending chart barriers, drawing fans and collaborators such as Michael Stype, A.R. Rahman, and Cornershop with their U.K. number one, ‘Brimful of Asha’.
Fiercely independent and evolving into a cooking icon, restauranteur and even acting in the critically acclaimed Mai (2013), Asha’s first passion for performance and evocative storytelling remains true to bringing India’s vibrant spirit to the world stage. Singing in over 20 Indian and foreign languages with a veteran live ensemble featuring Sachin, Bhosle’s colourful voice will guide audiences on a joyous journey one more time through a life that has come to symbolise the pure, transcendent beauty of a nation.
