Soul of Sydney is celebrating their 13th year by providing an inventive afternoon amalgamating Funk, Soul and Afrobeats.

A versatile collective of artists, creatives and musicians bonded by their love of music – Soul of Sydney comes from humble beginnings. Initially launched as a blog in 2009 before gradually moving onto the outdoor park scene, Soul of Sydney is an important fixture in the heart of the Inner-West’s cultural landscape.

What’s different?

The thing that really sets it apart is the interactive experience- crowds are encouraged to participate! While new and innovative genres are welcome, you’ll often hear Soul of Sydney play music from their major inspirations such as Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley among others.

Who are Keyim Ba?

Soul of Sydney’s continuing legacy will be honoured by Keyim Ba, a West African 8-piece Afro-Funk powerhouse, who will be performing LIVE in Sydney at an as of yet undisclosed location.

Lead vocalist Sibo Bangoura hails from a Griot family in Conakry, Guinea. Griots are oral historians, storytellers and musicians. Traditionally, they held an important place in Guinean society as advisors to the royal family. Sibo follows in this proud tradition by showcasing his West-African roots through a blend of percussion and vocals.

His team consisting of Blair Greenberg on rhythm guitar, Calvin Welsh on drums, Johnathon Pease on lead guitar, Paula Baxter on vocals and dance, Rachel Bangoura on vocals and dance, Tina Harris on bass guitar, and Yacou M’Baye on percussion are sure to deliver a breathtaking performance of Funk, Soul and Afrobeats.
