Albums of the Week: Zenith by Evans Robson Quartet // Midnight Ragas by Eric Hilton

July 10, 2025

Zenith – Evans Robson Quartet

One of Sydney most revered Jazz quartets released this record on the 13th of June. Lead by Sandy Evans and Andrew Robson they’re joined by bass powerhouse Brett Hirst and Drummer Hamish Stuart. It’s an album that showcases the depth, vitality, and rich artistry of contemporary jazz.

“Evans has been among the country’s preeminent tenor and soprano players for 40 years, while Robson has been a scalding and imaginative alto player for a decade less.” – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald

This is not the first time these musicians have been featured on Album of The Week and we doubt it will be the last.

Midnight Ragas – Eric Hilton

Eric Hilton is a respected downtempo electronic music producer and for this record has brought together some long time vocal collaborators along with new voices mixing up the sound. The lyrics on this album are in French, English and Spanish in what he calls a compilation record in name only.

“Languages are like different settings on a synth, they have a timbre and delivery that either work or they don’t within a song. Different languages and singers, changing tempos and sounds – there’s a lot of that on this record, and that’s why it sounds like a compilation album, even though it’s entirely my music,” – Eric Hilton

Released on the 20th of June with vocalists Natalia Clavier, Puma Ptah and Kristina Westernik-Dandridge.
