Victime de l’aube – Bolbec
Bolbec, comprised of multi-instrumentalists Axel Concato and Barth Corbelet, is a delightful jazz duo skillfully traversing through their diverse influences of folk, classical, electronic and spiritual jazz music. Victime de l’aube, their debut album, features over a dozen instruments and a generous dose of contemporary jazz virtuosity. The album’s name translates literally to the “Victim of Dawn”, and quite aptly so. It is a poignant and complex expression of beauty, capturing both the joy of dawn’s light as well as its inevitable brevity.
ART MAKE LOVE – 30/70
Melbourne-based band 30/70 makes music that can be best described as mind-bending future-jazz. Known for their ever-changing sound never short of soulfulness and novelty, they have not disappointed with their latest album, boldly titled ART MAKE LOVE. It deftly weaves between genres, with songs like “ALL 4 U” carrying traces of everything from Afro-beat and dance music to fusion and nu-jazz. Perhaps more impressively, however, the band never seems to stray far from the passion and life that underpins their music. Lead vocalist Allysha Joy captures the essence of the album beautifully: We wanted this record to embody the concept of art giving life, and life-giving art while serving as a vessel to bring joy, compassion and energy.
