Proffer – Lance Gurisik
Proffer—the latest album by Australian composer Lance Gurisik—is at once compelling and intimate. Featuring Gurisik’s signature minimalist feel, the record is an immersive tapestry of delicate piano work and subtle layers of sound. Over 40 minutes, Proffer meanders through an eclectic blend of genres, from contemporary classical music to ambient experimentation. Weather & Weeds by Holli Scott is an album about changing and growing, loving and longing. There is a certain softness to its folk-inflected sound that colours every track, and with the raw vulnerability of Scott’s delivery, the record sounds like a heart-to-heart with an old friend. Scott’s stripped down acoustic approach is a powerful stylistic choice. The sparseness and delicate instrumentation of songs like “Roots & Rain” and “Chasing the Wind” lets us breathe and reflect, with the poignancy of Scott’s voice growing stronger with every silence in between.
