EASTSIDE ALBUM OF THE WEEK PRESENTS

Drifting – Mette Henriette

In 2015, The Norwegian saxophonist, Mette Henriette became the first artist to release a double debut album on the renowned jazz record label ECM Records. Consequently, her highly anticipated second album “Drifting” is an ethereal masterpiece that showcases extraordinary talent and artistic vision. Throughout the album, Henriette explores the boundaries of contemporary jazz, weaving together elements of avant-garde, classical, and experimental music to create a truly immersive listening experience.

Collaboration plays a key role in the impeccable result of “Drifting,” with Henriette working closely with a diverse array of musicians such as cellist, Judith Hamann, and pianist, Johan Lindvall to bring her compositions to life. Henriette continues to push instruments past their expected roles, using extended techniques such as manipulating the air and sound of the saxaphone to create the hollow sound effect of wind.

The 15 tracks of this album cleverly delves into themes of introspection, longing, and the passage of time, with Henriette’s emotive saxophone skills lending a sense of intimacy and vulnerability to each track.
