TRIBUTE TO AFRO BRAZILIAN CULTURE TAKES OVER MARRICKVILLE
For one night only, you are invited to experience a different side of the vibrant Afro Brazilian culture, with an award-winning film, live performances, music and dance.
The Addison Road Picture House in Marrickville will host SLAFF’s annual Cine Lounge Fundraiser event on Saturday 17 August 2019, 6:30pm to celebrate the diversity of Latin American culture.
This year, the Cine Lounge fundraiser is premiering the multi-award winning feature film Azougue Nazaré. A film that dives deep into the sugarcane universe of rural Brazil, Azougue Nazaré is set in the cradle of the Maracatu Rural, a traditional manifestation of Brazilian popular culture which emerged from the mix of several African dances and religions.
The night will showcase the different cultural expressions of the Maracatu. Following the film, the night welcomes Sydney’s own Maracatu Ubuntu group, a Brazilian percussion group that rescues the rich aspects of Brazilian music, tradition and cultural performance.
To close off the night, Unidos de Sydney and Bateria 61 Grupo De Samba are bringing Rio Carnaval to Marrickville! Unidos De Sydney Samba School is a non-profit project bringing together samba drummers, samba dancers, musicians, artists, costume makers and more to provide an opportunity for the residents of Sydney to experience the passion, energy and creativity of Brazilian Arts through Samba.
Featuring a Caipirinha bar and traditional Brazilian food available for purchase.
You don’t want to miss this!
Your support on the night will help raise funds for the 14th Sydney Latin American Film Festival.
