2 Hours With Thelonious Monk

It has been around sixty years since Monk composed the majority of his well-known compositions. This has given ample time for current musicians to come to grips with his unique style and sound. A six CD set of the 70 Monk compositions has recently been released. The players are: Frank Kimbrough, piano, Scott Robinson, all reeds & horns, Rufus Reid, bass and Billy Drummond, drums.

All 70 compositions are played at least once. Many compositions are treated to fresh and exciting arrangements often with a horn taking a lead role instead of piano. The most interesting aspect for me is the inclusion of many rarely-heard compositions.

I invite you to listen to FreedomJazzDance on Eastside Radio 89.7FM Saturday 2pm or eastsidefm.org/freedomjazzdance anytime you like.
