The virtuous cycle: Good things happen, when people care about the ocean

The virtuous cycle: Good things happen, when people care about the ocean
Podcast: Boiling Point

We have heard enough bad news about our oceans. Our guest Dr John Turnbull, marine ecologist and social scientist, has some good news to tell. He researched the ‘virtuous cycle’: how and why people get engaged with ocean conservation and how it really makes a difference. John went on a roadtrip from Port Stephens to Perth to find out what factors make people care.

One of the outcomes of his work was that marine sanctuaries make it much easier for people to care. And if they do, marine biodiversity increases measurably. So policy makers aren’t off the hook. Good policy sets the scene to encourage people to act on ocean conservation.

Listen in to the whole story and catch a glimpse of hope!

Our guest, Dr John Turnbull, in his element.
