Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) was established in April 2008 as a not-for-profit organisation to champion research, education and exhibitions of significant and innovative contemporary art from Australia, the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. SCAF works closely with artists in commissioning new work and developing exhibitions that energise and respond to the gallery’s four-part complex comprising a large exhibition area, mini ‘out-site’ space, versatile theatre annexe and a Zen garden. Marine Coutroutsios is a French, Sydney based artist. She works with paper which she hand cuts carefully. Her work is mostly inspired by nature and details from everyday life. She is interested in creating visual emotions to engage and inspire the viewer. Her designs are delicate, minimalist, poetic and elegant. She tries to balance them between representation and abstraction. She hopes they will bring people a sense of peace and a glimpse of beauty.
Marine says: “Paper is a wonderful material, I love paper. Paper can be thin, thick, white, colored, textured, cut, sewed, glued, pinned, folded… This is endless… the way we can work with paper. Paper is a promise of something wonderful, you just have to choose what it is!”.
