Maltese tripfolk music with Etnika Flamenco!

February 02, 2017

ARE YOU IN THE MOOD FOR SOME MALTESE TRIPFOLK MUSIC?

Some 15 years ago, a small but enthusiastic group of friends on the Mediterranean island of Malta strived to revive the Maltese roots music. The unlikely yet irresistible result was enchanting – music that challenged people’s perception of their own musical identity. Etnika are all about diversity, which is why their 6-piece band format consists of an unlikely mix of artists and characters that play different instruments. The Maltese flute, oud, biambo, double bass, Flamenco footwork and Maltese lullabies all feature in the band’s performances. the founding members Francesca and Andrej have collaborated in recent years with the fabulous sell putt sensations Bandaluzia Flamenco

An unlikely mix of artists, characters and instruments, Maltese tripfolk band – *etnika layers enchanting melancholy with traditional tunes & lyrics over effected guitars, retro-futuristic synths, unconventional percussion, dance and footwork, deep, groovy bass, raspy sax, haunting whispery vocals and old Maltese instruments.

Recent from their performances in London, Rome and Malta, their zany repertoire spans trippy Maltese lullabies, chants & tales, Valletta port cabaret specials, and high energy original interpretations of traditional material.

Expect a few detours, expect the unexpected, this ‘tripfolk’ band has a big heart!
