DK and the Rising Sun at LIVE @ 505
This April Eastside’s Live @ 505 returns with well known lover of local blues and roots DK and the Rising Sun.
Declan kelly was born in Sydney Australia to an Irish Father and a Maori mother. Having 2 strong ancestral ties made it no wonder that creativity and Music was running through his blood.
His Mother ‘Salley’ a singer also exposed Declan to the life of a musician and Instruments from an early age where he took to the drums and Guitar, singing to come later in his life.
Having been the drummer for a number of great artists, Kelly learnt the craft of good song writing, recording authentically and the mastery of studio production, and the delivery of a rockin live show fronted by himself.
Following successive years touring the festival circuit DK and the Rising Sun return to the stage from the studio where they have been recording a new album and Dub tribute to Midnight Oil plus solo recordings.

Founding members Jessica Dunn (bass) and Harriet Harding (saxophone) formed the band in 2009 in a direct response to the under-representation of women in the jazz music community. Featuring a host of some of Australia’s strongest and most exciting young, female musicians and improvisors the band explores the intersection of jazz with South Indian, afro-beat, Balkan, Ethiopian and reggae music.In a short time Sirens have enjoyed considerable success, establishing themselves as a vital and innovative addition to the Australian jazz community. Their resume includes working with Lanie Lane, Jeff Duff and Dan Barnett; as well as performing at the Sydney Festival, The Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival and the Manly Jazz Festival.Performing songs from their upcoming debut album ‘Kali and the Change of Time’ Live @ 505 will come alive with the Sirens’ sound! 17 young, talented, female musicians all under the one roof… Who could ask for more! |

His willingness to push boundaries have led him to many unique collaborations, with his recent efforts resulting in winning the Aria for ‘Best World Music Album 2012.’ |

Miriam Lieberman is a singer songwriter with a unique global perspective. Take a heavy dose of West African musical sensibility, add a dash of Brazilian rhythms with folk music stylings and you get an idea of what she brings to the table. She melds her powerful vocals and percussive guitar with kora – 21 stringed West African harp.
The Conscious Pilots – May 10
Picking up truck loads of frequent flyer points as they circumnavigate the musical globe, the Conscious Pilots present a dash of Australian hip hop, a dabble of swing, a sprinkle of latin and a twinkle of flamenco.
The Java Quartet w/ Morganics and Bobby Singh – April 12
A miscellany of modern and traditional musical realms including digital beats, drum and bass, early hip hop and Hindustani raga.
Building upon the modal jazz styling of Miles Davis and John Coltrane since the mid 1990s, The Java Quartet has defined their ambience through six albums and a trance-like reflective sound.
