Forever FrenchFrench music in all it’s flavours, from Piaf via Gainsbourg to the contemporary. Including the world beats of the French diaspora, and the multi-cultural influences within France.

There has been a French show on Eastside Radio each Wednesday night continuously for 15 years.

Gabrielle took over from Stephane Husar ‘s Premiere Classe, 4 years ago and started Foreverfrench and later was joined by Sandrine Charruyer and Raffaela Beck and now Gilles V.

ForeverFrench is about French music all over the world, including Belgium, Switzerland, West, North, and Central Africa, The French Caribbean, Quebec, New Caledonia, Tahiti, Madagascar and the Reunion island. Naturally we play music produced in France some of which is in English, Arabic or Corsican and even the Celtic dialect of Brittany!

The program is presented by Gabrielle, Sandrine and Raffaela and occasionally our token male: Gilles . All of us travel to France regularly so we have the opportunity of filtering the ‘wheat from the chaff’ thus presenting a program that is current, interesting and enjoyable. Our common problem is there is more good music than time in which to play it! We tend to play music that is often not even played in France but is always music that we adore.

Our programs include music from the past as this rarely gets airplay in Australia for instance; Boris Vian, Juliette Greco, Henri Salvador, Gilbert Laffaille, Jacques Higelin, Jacques Dutronc and quirky stuff like Bobby Lapointe, Nino Ferrer, Gerard Morel.

And of course French jazz : the Double Six, Claude Nougaro, The Voice Messengers, Michel Legrand .

We provide information about local French-related events and visiting French-speaking artists. We work closely with Alliance Francaise and The French Film Festival. We are also avid movie-goers and theater buffs so you’ll always get a revue of what we have recently seen.

Gabrielle Haumesser worked for National and Regional French radio and owned and operated a nightclub which promoted interesting, new artists. She moved to Australia over two decades ago after coming to Sydney for a vacation and fell in love with 2JJ (forerunner of today’s 2JJJ). Subsequently she has worked in PR for many French organizations and now sees her contribution to FF as a passion that combines her twin loves; music and Eastside FM.

Sandrine Charruyer originally from Bordeaux, in South West in France, doesn’t only like wine and cheese as real sophisticated French girl but also has a devoted passion for Music & Film. She has grown up with 2 artists brothers who are gifted and talented for music. One became popular with his new wave style and called himself ‘ Badsnail “. Music then always has been part of her life and she became their best critic reference. She has a strong interest in spirituality and humanity and love traveling. Her taste is quite eclectic and varies from classical, to soul, funk, folk, new wave, pop, reggae…

Raffaela Beck: Born in Sydney 25 years ago, Raffaela lived in France for more than 17 years where she studied Art History and worked for several art galleries and museums. Music has always been a passion for her. She decided to come back 3 years ago to rediscover her native country and then started the Forever French adventure with her great colleagues.

Her aim: share her love of the “Chanson Francaise” with all of you!

A bientot sur Eastside FM…

Gilles V. is originally from Lille , North of France but moved to the “big smoke” Paris at the age of 4 .He always loved a wide range of music from his early age Gilles is a free lance photographer by profession but after being in Australia and Sydney for more than 11 years he recently did a 360 o move by taking over with one of his best mate a French bistro “Sel et Poivre” in the heart of Darlinghurst .

That will still give him time for his other passions…Surf ,photography and 89.7 FM East side radio…J
