The illustrious and multi-talented Gerard Masters is our next special guest for Eastside Radio’s “Live At 505″ night, on every 2nd Thursday of the month. This Thursday the 12th, come on down and join the launch of Gerard’s new album entitled “Random Acts Of Jazz Vol. 1″, which you can pre-order from Ladder Recordings here. As the title suggests, Gerard and the band draw from a wide range of musical ideas and ideals, to bring forward a fresh, fun, contemporary and relevant approach to Jazz Music. Popular songs such as Crowded House’s ‘It’s Only Natural’ collide into his own compositions like ‘I Am Your Robot Lover’, a quirky take on the traditional jazz rhythm changes format.
Joined on Thursday by vocalist Emma Pask and Sydney’s own “sexy sax” man, James Valentine, plus a whole line up of equally sensual sonic virtuosos, there’s no excuses for avoiding the sweet tunes and delicious food down at venue 505 on Cleveland Street. Gerard is accompanied by powerhouse drummer Evan Mannell, providing all manner of glorious beats, one of Sydney’s premier guitarists Carl Dewhurst, who will bring along some absolute magic including his patented style known as ‘dripping’, and long-time collaborator Cameron Undy will be locking and unlocking the dark underworld of electric bass for you.
If that’s not enough, Eastsiders may recognise our very own Virginia Lowe from “In The Pocket’ (Tuesdays 9am) as she supports with a fantastic DJ set on the night. Entry is only $15, or just $10 for concessions/eastsiders, so don’t miss it! The show will be broadcast live on air from 9.30pm on East Side FM 89.7.
Check out Gerard’s delightful video for his song ‘Spin’, released on his EP of the same name.
